Measuring Your Happiness
To establish a value of your overarching well-being we use the Subjective Happiness Scale (SHS).
Rather than tracking fleeting daily moods, the SHS is validated four question assessment that evaluates your global happiness.
You will complete the SHS before you start the programme and after you finish so we can track your progress together.
You will be asked to rate yourself on a 7-point scale across four specific questions:
- The Absolute Rating: “In general, I consider myself…”
- The Relative Rating: “Compared with most of my peers, I consider myself…”
- The “Happy” Profile: “Some people are generally very happy. They enjoy life regardless of what is going on, getting the most out of everything. To what extent does this characterization describe you?”
- The “Unhappy” Profile: “Some people are generally not very happy. Although they are not depressed, they never seem as happy as they might be. To what extent does this characterization describe you?”
The SHS is a highly robust psychological metric. It has been clinically validated across 14 separate studies involving 2,732 participants. The psychometric data demonstrates high internal consistency and excellent reliability, making it a dependable benchmark for your happiness.
For each of the following statements and/or questions, please select the point on the scale that you feel is most appropriate in describing you.
The first two questions ask you to characterise yourself relative to peers whilst the second two items offer brief descriptions of happy and unhappy individuals and ask you to evaluate to which extent each of the descriptions characterises you.
